SEPTEMBER
MEETING |
9 /24/61 - The Bullwinkle Show Debut |
SEPTEMBER PROGRAM You may have noticed a rise in instances of crime in
our neighborhood. At the September meeting, we will discuss several resources
available to homeowners to report crimes that occur in the neighborhood
and to keep track of crime data. One such resource that was featured in
the June newsletter is krimelabb.com, which allows users to view detailed
crime data several different ways and plots the incidents on a Google
map. Jack Darby, who runs the website, will be present at the meeting
to provide a demonstration of his website. |

PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
For those of you whom I have not had the opportunity to meet, I was elected at the annual picnic in June to fill the unexpired term of Dominic Chavez. My wife, Kim, and I moved into the neighborhood in 2007, falling in love with the large, tree-filled lots, wide streets, and beautiful homes. We loved the fact that so many people in the neighborhood are original owners who bought their homes back when Manchaca was a two-lane road and everything around was cow pasture. Over the years, Castlewood Forest and Oak Valley have truly become a green jewel in the middle of urban development. Like many of you, we have read this newsletter over the past year or so noting that every issue reminded us that COVNA needed officers. When we attended the Christmas party, it became clear that pretty much everyone in attendance had taken their turn (some more than once) at being an officer at some point. With all the growth and development around us, I realized that in order for COVNA to serve the neighborhood, the newer generation of homeowners would need to become more active in the organization. When I found out that Dominic worked so hard for COVNA, but had to give up his office to serve our country overseas, I knew that I needed to offer to help. There are over four hundred homes within the boundaries of COVNA. Over a quarter of us participate on the e-mail group. Decidedly fewer than that attend COVNA meetings. Whether you have lived here for 20 years or 2 years, I am sure that you recognize that our neighborhood is special. Please consider getting involved in COVNA so that we can all work together, build strong relationships, and ensure that our neighborhood continues to be a safe and wonderful place to live. You can start by attending the COVNA meeting on September 21, which will focus on ways we can work together to reduce crime in our neighborhood. I look forward to seeing you there. Mark Tilley |
